Caviar Centre is a Toronto-based specialty food brand serving both direct-to-consumer (DTC) and B2B customers. The project involved migrating from Lightspeed/Ecwid to Shopify, redesigning the storefront, and rebuilding catalog, pricing, and shipping logic to support a 1,000+ SKU inventory, tiered B2B pricing, and city-based free shipping rules within a single scalable system.

Problem & Challenge

Caviar Centre’s previous platform setup made it difficult to support the operational realities of a growing specialty food business. Managing a large catalog, serving both retail and wholesale customers, and implementing advanced pricing and shipping rules required more flexibility than their existing stack could provide.

Key challenges included:

  • Maintaining separate and shared catalogs for DTC and B2B customers
  • Implementing tiered B2B pricing with an approval-based registration flow
  • Handling city-specific free shipping logic accurately
  • Improving product discovery across a 1,000+ SKU catalog
  • Replacing platform limitations without disrupting daily operations

How We Approached the Build

The project was approached as a full ecommerce re-architecture. Shopify Grow was selected to provide a stable foundation for both B2B and DTC operations, while custom logic was layered in where Shopify’s default behavior wasn’t enough.

Our focus areas were:

  • Structuring separate and shared catalogs to support different buyer types
  • Implementing AI-powered search and recommendations to improve discovery
  • Building a custom app to handle IP-based city detection and conditional free-shipping messaging
  • Creating a tiered B2B pricing system with online registration and approval workflows
  • Customizing the storefront to remain fast and clean despite added complexity
