Grannie Annie - Bilingual B2B Shopify Store

company-logo-pic

Grannie Annie is a Montreal-based, father-and-daughter brand bringing authentic Caribbean pepper sauce — a family recipe from Antigua — to Canadian kitchens. The site had two jobs: tell the brand story to consumers and run a full wholesale ordering system for retail buyers behind a secure login. We delivered a bilingual custom Shopify store that sends retail shoppers to Amazon while giving wholesale buyers their own B2B channel — live in 4 weeks.

Problem & Challenge

Grannie Annie is a young brand with a clear commercial model but a genuinely split audience. Consumers buy through Amazon, where fulfilment is already handled. Retail and wholesale buyers, however, need something Amazon can't offer: account-based ordering, wholesale pricing, and shipping that reflects how cases actually move across Canadian provinces.

Key challenges included:

  • Building a store that serves two audiences without confusing either — consumers pointed to Amazon, and wholesale buyers into a gated ordering system
  • Creating a complete B2B flow — registration, manual approval, and online ordering — that a non-technical team could manage day-to-day
  • Keeping wholesale pricing and products hidden from the public and visible only after login
  • Delivering the entire experience in both English and French for the Canadian market
  • Configuring custom shipping logic that changes by province and by the number of cases ordered
  • Hitting a fast launch window without cutting corners on performance or accessibility

How We Approached the Build

We treated Grannie Annie as a focused B2B build with a clean consumer front door — not a standard retail store. Every decision came back to two questions: is it effortless for a wholesale buyer, and is it manageable for the team running it?

Our focus areas were:

  • A B2B-only ordering system built on Shopify's native tools. Wholesale customers register through a dedicated form, the Grannie Annie team reviews and approves each application, and approved buyers log in to order — with wholesale pricing and the full catalog unlocked only after authentication.
  • Passwordless, low-friction login. Buyers sign in with their email and a one-time code, removing password friction entirely and making repeat ordering fast.
  • Customer accounts with profiles and order history, so wholesale buyers can manage their details and reorder from past purchases without contacting the team.
  • Custom shipping logic by province and case quantity, so freight reflects real-world distribution instead of flat, inaccurate rates.
  • A bilingual EN/FR experience across navigation, content, and products, built for Canadian buyers on both sides of the language line.
  • A consumer path that stays simple — retail shoppers are guided to the brand's Amazon store, keeping the on-site experience focused on story and wholesale.
  • An events section highlighting where the brand is exhibiting next, turning the site into a live touchpoint for a brand that grows through in-person discovery.

We built the store with performance and accessibility as first-class requirements, not afterthoughts — which is why the finished site posts near-perfect Core Web Vitals and a 100 accessibility score. It also scores 3/3 on Google PageSpeed Insights' new agentic browsing metric — a signal of how cleanly AI agents can read and navigate the store, which matters more every month as buyers begin using AI assistants to find and order products.

The Finished Store

The finished store feels simple to a consumer and complete to a wholesale buyer. Retail visitors get the brand story and a clear path to Amazon. Wholesale buyers get a real platform: register, get approved, log in, and order at wholesale pricing — in English or French, with province-based shipping. Behind the scenes, the team reviews and approves buyers and manages orders without touching code. A lean, fast, bilingual B2B store, built to grow across Canada.
